Match Report

Caradon Ladies 4th’s played a local derby on Saturday hosting Bodmin 2’s at Lux Park. Bodmin are currently placed above Caradon in the middle of the league so the home side were expecting a tough game.
Ready for a fight, Caradon went on the attack straight away, stunning Bodmin and pinning them back, well into their own half. Unable to clear the ball beyond the half way line Bodmin just couldn’t keep the home side at home and it was just a matter of when rather than if Caradon scored. Lauren Gerry came close on a couple of occasions just missing at the near side post. Caradons mid-field were working their socks off feeding the forwards and keeping Bodmin hemmed in. Lynsey White had a skilful run spanning over half the pitch, weaving round Bodmin players until she found herself in the visitors circle and without wasting any time slammed the ball past the Bodmin defence into the goal. This shocked Bodmin and gave the home team the lift they needed. Cheered on by a vocal group on the side-line Caradon were quick to capitalise on this pushing up high on Bodmin also desperate to increase their lead and increase it they did with the second coming quite quickly after the first. Amber Jeffery was on impressive form at the back cutting out attack after attack by the visitors earning herself Man of the Match. Bodmin did manage to pull a goal back after a short run of pressure by Bodmin, Georgia Eddy in goal was finally beaten as the ball found the back of the net. Caradon Extended their lead with another goal before half time making the buffer between the teams a bit more comfortable,
Bodmin were determined to try and claw their way back into the game and started well, scoring and closing the gap on the home side. However Caradon 4’s weren’t finished with Gerry slamming the ball into the Bodmin keeper picking up the rebound and flicking into the goal. The home side now defended well the for the remainder of the game with Captain Hazel putting in a some timely tackles right towards the end of the game to deny Bodmin of any scoring opportunity.
This 4-2 win for Caradons 4ths came as a bit of surprise but is testament to how the team has improved and the amount of effort they put in, it has given them all a boost of confidence that they will take into their next game against OPM on Saturday.
