Caradon ladies 4’s travelled up to Plymouth for a very early start against Plymouth Uni 2’s.The game ended 4-0 in the Uni’s favour the first time they met but Caradon were very determined to get the better of them this time around.
The game started at a furious pace with the home side pegging the Cornish visitors back into their own half almost straight away, however Caradon held fast and with some fantastic defending kept them at bay. Caradon did have moments where they posed a threat to the Uni team catching them with a fast break on more than one occasion. Caradon came off for half time very happy with their performance and rightly so with the effort they had put in so far clearly evident on their faces.
The second half started in much the same way as the first with the Uni fast pace pinning Caradon back into their half but as with the first half the whole team defence slowing the attackers down and cutting out any chance for a goal. The younger players on the Caradon team were again responsible for the fast break away, fighting into the Uni final quarter but just unable to convert their chances. An interesting decision from the Umpire gave the Plymouth side a penalty corner, which they managed to convert to take the lead. This spurred on the visitors, who increased their pace, desperate to equal the score. Emma Glidons pace so was much, she seemed to out run her feet and took a spectacular dive when she was unable to slow down. The Uni would manage to score again just before the final whistle putting the game out of reach for Caradon.
The improvements Caradons 4’s have made were very evident in this game, the team work and determination they displayed was outstanding and will hopefully help them to have a positive finish to the season.
