Match Report |
Caradon Ladies 4ths traveled up to Plymouth Marjons on Saturday playing in glorious winter sunshine. Our team was determined and on a high after last weeks win against Plymouth Uni.
Playing into the sun Caradon were at a slight disadvantage but still managed to trouble the home side, with a few attacking runs finding their way deep into the home teams half, however it was Marjons who were able to find the goal first when a quick break forced its way past the Caradon defence and beat Anna Gubbins in goal. Caradon were in fighting spirit and mounted an offensive straight from the restart, though the goal alluded them, they were awarded a short corner. The initial stike on goal hit the keepers toe, bobbling out wide to Sasha Riddle waiting on the post who hit it into the net without hesitation. After a brief discussion between the umpires the goal was awarded and the game resumed. Both teams would net themselves another goal before half time in what was looking to be a very even game.
The second half was a little different with Marjons starting to assert their dominance over the game, over time pulling one, then two goals ahead. Jayne Longrigg did a sterling job of encouraging her team mates, egging them forwards, winning another penalty corner, which she duly hammered past the awaiting opposition defense into the goal. At 4-3 the game was still well within Caradons reach but Marjons were not quite done yet and managed to score another two goals against the run of play increasing their lead to 6-3. Caradons fighting spirit was never more evident that in the final few minutes of the game. Longrigg again fought her way into the circle her pass across the goal was again picked up by Riddle and slipped into the corner bringing Caradons tally for the day to 4. The final whistle blew almost straight away after the restart with no more goal scoring chances the score stood at 6-4 to Marjons, perhaps a flattering score line for Marjons but a true testament to the hard work and determination that sees Caradon increasing in skill all the time.
