Match Report

Caradon Ladies 3's ended the season with a superb 2 - 0 win against St.Austell.  This was certainly a memorable last league game for Caradon, as every player demonstrated exceptionally high standards of play.

Within the first ten minutes of the whistle Libby Walsh had an impressive strike on goal, this was deflected by St.Austell keeper.  Sarah Strevens picked up the loose ball and made a second early attempt which narrowly missed going wide of the net.

On Caradon’s second short corner Jayne Longrigg picked up the ball at the top of the D and played a slip pass to Ellen Spencer who successfully picked up Caradon’s first goal thirteen minutes into the game.

Sharon Jeffery and Kerryn Walsh demonstrated some strong and experienced defending as St.Austell attempted to push forward.  Junior player, Leah Strevens showed great team spirit and versatility as she bounced from up front, mid and defence throughout the season covering right back position on this occasion with ease.

Despite the heat of the sun the mid players did not tire as they played a strategic game with short and accurate passes.  Mid player, Saffron Cripps made a perfect cross to Sarah Strevens who popped in Caradon’s second and final goal.

Caradon keeper, Emily Joyce was challenged in the first three minutes in the second half.  But with ease she saved it and the ball soon found its way back up the pitch.  The ball pinged up the wing into the D and played onto a St.Austell foot for a short corner.   Caradon were unable to take advantage of this opportunity.  St.Austell were soon to be awarded a short corner for a similar offence where centre back player Sharon Jeffery made a fantastic save.  Caradon continued to successfully defend three short corners with Captain, Nicola Batten intercepting and clearing two strong strikes.

The final whistle blew and the team celebrated with their dedicated crew of family supporters.  This united and hardworking team have shown vast improvements throughout the season and should be proud of their final achievement – Finishing potentially fourth place.  With twelve teams within Trelawney Division Two this is a remarkable accomplishment – Well Done Ladies!
