Match Report

Saturday saw the first league game for the new season for Caradon ladies second team, the seconds welcomed some new players to the team and everyone was keen to start the season strong.  The team started positive and worked extremely hard to create chances. The visitors, Camborne School of Mines, were the first to hit the jackpot but Caradon’s heads stayed high but the first half finished 1-0 to the visitors. The team came back on the pitch with a greater determination in the second half and the youngsters along with the more experienced players began to make inroads through the visitors defence.

Eventually Erryn Lockett struck lucky when a strike from the top of ‘D’ hit the post bounced back for Erryn to strike home. Unfortunately within minutes Camborne scored a second after a long stretch of long corners. Caradon again kept positive. Midfielders Leah Jones, Emma Jayne Mullins, Sadie Mullis and Charlotte Reed and Katie Jones worked tirelessly together to win back procession, the hard work paid off when EJ Mullis drove the ball forward passed to Lockett in the D who slipped the ball to Bryony Gubbins to slap past the keeper. This spurred the team on; soaked to the skin from the torrential rain the team battled on, the visitors were keen to claim back the 3 points and kept the pressure up but defenders Daisy Hunn, Rachel Spencer, Claire Brown, Rachel Luiten and keeper Fleur Worden stayed strong and the game finished a very respectable 2-2.

Player of the match was a 4 way tie between Leah Jones, Sadie Mullis, E J Mullis and Rachel Spencer which proved this was a team effort!
