Match Report | In testing weather conditions Caradon 1s battled thier way to a 4-2 win over Tavistock. With the wind in thier faces Caradon were on the front foot and had the best of the opening exchanges. Strong passing phases led to penalty corners being awarded. Captain, Clare Poad thought she had broke the deadlock but her goal was judged to have been hit by the back of the stick and caradon had to wait a few minutes more until Beth Harris slammed home for her first goal of the season. Determined to score more goals Caradon worked hard to create chances in the circle and were rewarded when numerous penalty corners were forced. Poad smashed home to make it 2-0 but despite looking comfortable, Tavistock manged to pull one back just before the half time break. With the increasing rain fall and lowering temperature, the second half became rather scrappy but Player of the match, Amy Batty remained calm and took control of the back line. Poad scored another from a penalty corner and but Tavistock would not give up and scored a well worked goal from thier strong right sided midfielder. Lauren Gouge and Helen Manley both created good chances and kept the pressure up on the tiring Tavistock defence. With ten minutes remaining a Batty shot on goal following yet another penalty corner met a defenders foot on the line. Penalty flick awarded it was left to Bizzie Dinnis to step up and execute a perfect flick and ease any thoughts of Tavistock sneaking a point. As the final whistle went, both sets of players and officails rushed to leave the field to warm up and dry off! With promotion now out of reach due to other results, Caradon now target a 3rd place which they can now achieve with a win against league leaders Exeter University. A challenge this spirited squad will accept with glee. |
