Match Report

Caradon travelled to Tavistock and played some of their best hockey this season to come out 4-2 winners.

The start of the match, however, was not pretty and can only be described as a freeze. With Caradon slow to react Tavistock were 2-0 up within 10 minutes and it could have been more if not for some sharp saves by keeper Helen Delbridge.

With substitutional rotations taking place Caradon began to find thier feet and strung some passes together on the unusually bouncy pitch.

Skipper, Clare Poad, broke past 2 defendersĀ on the edge of the circle and found the corner of the goal to offer up the comeback which this team are no strangers to. Nic Dymond was starting to enjoy the space in the middle of the pitch and controlling the flow of traffic. Shortly before half time Bizzie Dinnis bundled the ball over the line after Poad found space to pass across the goal face.

Focused words were had at the half time break and Caradon were a transformed team in the second half. Player of the match, Lauren Gouge, was on the front foot and together with winger Helen Manley were creating chances for the enthusiastic forwards and it wasnt long before Laura Hill grabbed herself a goal for Caradon to at last take the lead.

Carinna Hodge and Beth Harris now looked unbeatable in the midfield and thier constant harrasment and cool heads in attacking phases were leading to more goal scoring chances. Poad scored from a penalty corner after another accurate injection from Amy Batty to give the visitors breathing space.

Tavistock continued to push and as Caradon tired created a few half chances that were well dealt with by defenders Batty, Julia Eldridge, Fluer Worden and Lucie Kay.

Caradon enjoyed the taste of victory after another stealey comback but will need to be ready form the start next week when they face promotion contenders, Exeter University at Lux Park this Saturday.
