Match Report | Caradon braved the windy jourmey to Penzance on Saturday but were rewarded with a hard earnt 3 points. Ater last weeks confidance buiding performance, Caradon werre determined to start strongly but the home team had other ideas. Penzance looked composed on the ball and it was Caradon who again found themselves trying to get a grip of the opposition. With chances on goal coming mainly from penalty corners the Pz goalkeeper was in rude form and pulled off some spectacular saves. The game was stopped for a short time after a dangerous tackle on Laura Hill could have meant a penalty flick but the umpires awarded a penalty corner which was cleared and the home team broke and score a clinical goal. Caradon are now used to being down at half time so knew they could turn it around. The second half was dominated by Caradon, an attack down the right resulted in Clare Poad firing the ball across the circle. Player of the match, Bizzie Dinnis, reached to deflect the ball high into the net and with this caradon suddenly started to believe in themselves more. Penalty corner after penalty corner were awarded but it was Penzance who regained the lead with a similarly worked goal to thier first. Defender Julia Eldridge remained calm and played a real leaders role in keeping the team positive and it was her interception which led to the equaliser. The loose ball was picked up by Dinnis near the half way line, and started to weave her way to the goal. The umpire continued to play advantage after numerous fouls on the forward and Dinnis showed her strength to finish her run with a slotted ball into the corner. With time running out and every combination of penalty corner used it was left to a staright stop and strike from Poad to grab the vital winning goal. This was definately not Caradons prettiest performance but with pure grit and determination came out worthy winners. Every player gave 100% and proved that even if your not having a great game individully, if you never give up the team will get its just rewards. Caradon entertain Bude at Lux Park on Saturday |
