Match Report | Caradon extend their lead at the top of Southern Devision 2 with an 8-1 win over Plymouth Marjon C.
Caradon men’s 1st XI played host to Marjon C on Saturday, despite the earlier down pours and the forecast the rain came to a holy before both teams observed a minutes silence in honour. The home team got off to a sluggish start and were not in the game for the first 15 minutes, the well drilled Marjon team took full advantage and managed to secure the first goal with in 5 minutes and continue to keep the lead well into the first half. With every pass however Caradon grew with confidence as they rekindled their form of previous weeks, it only seemed a matter of time before Caradon would score. Finally that moment came when a driving David Fasey lashed a ball to the back post, where Neil Spencer pounced, deflecting the past the keeper.
Caradon were back level and with in two minutes were a goal ahead when a threw ball linked up with Lawrence Pullen behind the defensive line leaving him in space to simply push the ball past the keeper at the near post. In true Caradon form they struck again when the iron was hot, David Fasey concerting from the top of the D. In the space of five minutes Caradon went from being one behind to 3-1 up, the half time whistle could not come soon enough for shell shocked away team.
The second half started as the first finished, Marjon struggling to make head way out of their own half and Caradon getting men forward to apply the pressure, reassured by the performance from Dan Harris in goal and his defensive line in front. Soon into the second half Caradon 4th was scored by Tyler Walsh, who picked up a loose ball from a short corner flicking it past the keeper before he could react. Neil Spencer was not done scoring either, working tirelessly down the left, attacking a ball that looked destined to go off the base line, he threw his body at the ball to score, in doing so he ended up colliding with the goal keeper and unfortunately for Marjon and the game he did not feel well enough to continue, substituting on a kicking back Marjon battled on.
With out a regular keeper in goal the away team were easy pickings and Caradon sweeped up a further three goals through the combined efforts to Tyler Walsh and Chris Fasey. With that the final whistle blew and Caradon had won 8-1, they now stand alone at the top of the table with a 4 point lead over second place and a very health goal difference. Next week the Mens 1s travel to Plymouth looking to continue their perfect start to the season against OPM. |
