Match Report | Caradon Mens 1st XI travelled away for the second week in a row, this time only as far as Plymouth. After winning the first game of the season, against Ashmoor, Caradon were keen to continue their winning ways against Plymouth University 2nd XI.
From the first whistle Caradon were on the front foot, pushing the University team deep into their own half. Caradon created a strong wall from the front line, pressuring Plymouth Uni’s defence into to making mistakes. Despite a number of good chances from both in play and short corner routines the Plymouth keeper insured both teams went into half time with no goals.
Caradon still confident they would win continued the second half how they finished the first, as the Plymouth team started to tire gaps opened up in the midfield and the on the wings. The break finally came from a well-constructed side line hit in. Martin Batty found Man of the Match Luke Jeffery in space down the right wing, Luke turned inside and played the ball into the path of Chris Fasey on the top of the ‘D’, Fasey rolled the ball to his reverse and struck the ball low into the bottom right corner. 1-0 up and with the flow of the game Caradon felt in control, however this was short lived when Plymouth Uni broke through the Caradon defence and beat the Dan Harris at the far post.
With the game level Caradon seemed to find another gear, after a couple good attempt from the wings and midfield kept at bay by the Plymouth Keeper Caradon decided to switch up their short corners. The ball was slipped from David Fasey on the top, to Chris Fasey out wide who found David Fasey back in the middle deflecting into the goal. Caradon were back in front.
Going behind once again Plymouth University dropped their head, Caradon capitalised, David drawing a number of fouls in the middle of the park won a free hit, taken quickly, he found Luke once again in space on the wing, driving around his defender Luke worked the ball to Tyler who took a quick clip hit beating the keeper at the near post. With momentum on their side Caradon’s forward line continued to pressure the University’s defence. Stephen Hayes broke down a Plymouth attack with a well-timed tacked on the left, the ball fell into the path of Neil Spencer, who beat his man around the outside, driving the baseline he sold the keeper with his eyes and slipped the ball past him at the near post.
Caradon Mens 1st XI have taken two wins from two, on Saturday Caradon face Penzance at home, which will be the first home game of the season, the team is hoping to continue their current away from at Lux Park. |
