Match Report

Six days after the First Team secured promotion the Second Team followed suit with a hard fought win against PGSOB.  Playing some of their best hockey of the season in the first half Caradon were quick to impose themselves and after 10 minutes had taken the lead; Captain David Lockett was quick to follow up his first shot on goal from a short corner and fire home from the rebound off the keepers pads.  Harrison Pollard caused problems down the right as his vein of good form continued and he got himself on the score sheet with a decent solo effort as he darted into the D and slotted home.  Lockett tried to copy Pollard with a run into the D down the right only this time his shot from a tight angle was going wide but a perfectly positioned Evan Spencer on the far post was at hand to steer the ball home.  In the last ten minutes of the half Caradon started to overcomplicate their hockey and were nearly made to pay as a rare PGSOB short corner was initally saved by keeper George Rowe but the rebound feel to a PGSOB forward who could only loop a shot over the bar.  Although Caradon had the better opportunities in the second half PGSOB were not without a treat but Mike Parkinson and Rapper Tamblin worked well together to maintain control and with 15 minutes to go Paul Hunt got on the scoresheet as he deflected a hit into the D to wrong foot the keeper and put the gloss on a good display that sealed promotion.  Tristan Young was named man of the match for his solid display in defence and excellent distribution of the ball turning defence into attack which he almost capped off with a goal only to be denied by a defender on the line.  Two points from their final two games is all that is required to ensure they end the season as Champions of South West Division 2.  The fizz is on ice for the trip to play Plymouth University at Bull Point for a 1400 start.
