Match Report

The first game of the season was an encounter with Okehampton A who had been relegated from the division above which indicated this would be a difficult start to the new season.  The hot weather also didn't help but Caradon came out fo the traps flying and were ahead within 5 minutes as a strike into the D was expertly deflected by Jake Andrews to wrong foot the keeper and find the back of the net.  Caradon continued to maintain the pressure but were unable to utilise their first short corner as the shot was place just outside the post.  Okehampton still looked dangerous on the counter attack and at the mid point of the half they were able to work the ball into the D and the shot was just out of reach out George Rowe in goal.  Caradon continued to press and within 10 minutes had regained the lead through their second short corner as a strike from David Lockett was deflected by the defender on the line into the roof of the net.  Minutes later Lockett had the ball in the back of the net again from the next short corner only this time it was disallowed as it was just over the height of the backboard.  Thomas Rowe also had the ball in the back of the net but again it was disallowed for a foot in the build up.  The second half start with Caradon looking to extend their lead but despite hitting the post through Will Turpin and a number of scrambles on the line they were unable to give themselves the breathing space they were after.  With 10 minutes to go Okehampton started to get back into the game and forced 4 short corners on the trott.  Goerge Rowe pulled off a fine save to deny Okehampton with the 3rd one and a defender near the line deflect the fourth around the post and the storm had been weathered.  Soon after, with both teams having run themselves into the ground the final whislte arrived to give Caradon the ideal start to the season.  Man of the Match went to Tristan Young for his strong display at Left Back.  Next up sees the visit of Penzance who will be pushing for promotion back to the higher division after a season in South West 2.
