Match Report |
For the second time in the weekend, Caradons 2s made a long trip down West on Sunday, this time to face Trelawney Division league contenders Duchy in the County Plate competition. With significant selection difficulties due to clash of timings with the U16 girls County tournament, Caradon travelled with a bare 11, including 13 year old Ellen Spencer on debut. Conversely, the Duchy side looked to be at full strength and determined to put together a good run in the Plate competition this year. In usual fashion the Duchy ladies were fiercely competitive and played to their home advantage. Against this backdrop it took Caradon some time to settle into their game, by which time Duchy had pushed forward and won a succession of penalty corners. By half time the score was 4-0 to Duchy, although Caradon were unlucky to have conceded the short corners that led to 2 of the goals. A settling half time team talk saw Caradon come out stronger in the second half, to match Duchy with their passing play and posession hockey. Lucie Kay looked comfortable in mid-field while Nat Ridgers was a continued threat down the right hand side of the pitch. Precision passes from the Caradon defence saw increasing pressure on the home team, with Ellen Spencer holding the ball up well and linking with Helen Manley to advance on the Duchy goal. Caradon had short corner opportunities of their own in the second half, but were unable to convert against an in-form Duchy keeper. 10 minutes from time Duchy added to their tally with a well worked passing move. The game finished 5-0 to Duchy, leaving Caradon disappointed to exit the Plate competition, but with heads held high after their improved performance in the second half. Next Saturday sees Caradon 2s on the road once again for their final fixture before Christmas, away to Camborne School of Mines.
