Match Report | Caradon entertained Penzance in the quarter final of the Cornwall cup and ran out comfortable 6-2 winners. With Penzance sitting at the top of the table directly below Caradon, this was always going to be an entertaining match. Penzance started well, playing with confidance and going toe to toe with the pre match favourites. The first 15 minutes was an even contest with both teams creating chances but it was player of the match, Helen Manley that got the crucial goal to break the deadlock. An attack into the circle from Bizzie Dinnis saw the ball drop to manley who calmly slotted home past the advancing keeper. The lead was soon doubled in the very next attack when a strike from a short corner by skipper Clare Poad was stopped on the line by a Pz foot and the resulting penalty flick was converted by Poad. Caradon were now dominating play and took advantage by scoring a further goal before half time. A well worked penalty corner routine left Alice May to fire home from an accute angle. The second half started at a fast pace and it was the visitors who scored quickly in a break away goal. Caradon remained calm and with Lucie Kay making a fantastic debut at right back, chances were kept to a minimum. Marcia Burgess was, again, marshalling her midfielders ensuring Caradon kept their shape. Beth Harris and Manley were giving plenty of ball to the forwards and numerous penalty corners were won. The home team increased thier lead when Poad powered home a straight strike from one of the corners and completed her hat trick after good combination play with Dinnis. At 5-1 Pz scored yet another break away goal but the final word was had by Caradon with Dinnis finally get her name on the score sheet, deflecting the ball home from 2 yards out. Caradon will now face Falmouth in the semi final, keen to push for another day at the County Final in April 2018. The first team can now enjoy a festive break after the first half of the season and look forward to continuing their improving performances. |
