Match Report |
Although Penzance weren't at full strength they contained a large proportion of the side that regularly turns out in Southern 1 Division a mere 3 Divisions higher than Caradon second team. Caradon made some early headway and forced a short corner in the first 5 minutes which unfortunately came to nothing. Penzance then had a spell of pressure of there own and through a number of short corners were quickly 3 goals to the good after 15 minutes. Caradon settled again with the frontline dropping back to bridge the gap to midfield the play became more even with Thomas Rowe have a very good game at Left Half. Unfortunately Penzance managed to scramble the ball home just before half time to give them a 4-0 lead at the break. The second half was a much more even affair with the midfield of Rowe, William Turpin and Jake Wright all continuing to work hard to break up Penzance attacks and feed the ball forward for the industrious Harrison Pollard and Ben Hedley to cause a nusiance to the Penzance defence. The game quickly became more open and Penzance were able to force another short corner. On this occasion Caradon's luck ran out as Richard Turpin deflected a short that was going wide into his own net. Caradon continued to work hard for there on reward and 10 minutes from the end they forced another short corner. This time the inject was inch perfect and skipper David Lockett was able to smash it in at the near post as the defender on the line was unable to get enough stick on the ball to keep it out. At that was the final goal action as the game finished 5-1 to Penzance but the young Caradon second team can be justly proud of the fact they made a team from 3 Divisions above them work so hard for the win. Thomas Rowe was judged Man of the Match and is making great strides in his first season in league hockey and his brother is showing that he is an able deputy for Toby Riddle in goal.
