Match Report |
Caradon Ladies 2s were on the road once again at the weekend for their final league match of 2017, which was a re-arranged fixture from the storm Brian weekend against Camborne School of Mines. With regular defender Claire Brown unavailable, and Alice May called up to the 1st eleven, the team welcomed back Abi Larigo who is returning to fitness after the arrival of baby James in October. Larigo started as the single available substitute, with the ever able and experienced Emma-Jayne Mullis joining the defence at Right Back. With CSM winning the toss and electing for first push back, they broke hard from the off and put the Caradon defence under immediate and repeated pressure. The Caradon defence stood firm as a unit and were able to snuff out any forays on goal, in turn getting the ball through to the mid-field of Harris and (Man-of-the-Match) Ridgers who demonstrated some close control and accurate passing to build pressure via the counter-attack. Despite a couple of short corners, Caradon were unable to significantly trouble the CSM goal in the first half and the score-line remained 0-0 at the half time break. Both sides appeared fired up from the restart resulting in end-to-end play and some quick passing hockey. Against the run of play a quick Caradon ball from the left side half way line, was pounced upon by Katie Jones, who then went on-on-one with the CSM keeper to calmly slot home for a very well deserved first goal for the 2nd eleven. CSM were clearly rattled and the tempo of the game increased further with their determination to pull a goal back. Caradon defence were able to hold firm until the 56th minute when a scrappy ball found its way to the CSM centre forward who was able to slot home to bring the scope to 1-1. The next 15 minues proved Caradon's undoing, with 2 further goals added by the young CSM side and green cards handed out to both K Jones and N Ridgers for some wayward stick tackles. The game finished 3-1 to CSM with Caradon disappointed but rightly proud to have limited the home side goal tally. Caradon will now enjoy the Christmas break and will be looking to return in the New Year, recharged and refreshed ready to further consolidate their position in Trelawney Division 1.
