Match Report |
Caradon's second match of the weekend was in the Cornwall Cup against Duchy, who are playing in the Conference South, two leagues above Caradon. It was difficult start and Duchy's passing, movement and speed was evident from the outset. Caradon held off waves of attack and started to grow into the game. A turnover inside the Caradon 'D' by Martin Batty led to Luke Jeffrey picking up the ball on the right wing. He ran 50m into the Duchy 'D' before calming lifting the ball passed the goalie to open the scoring. Unfortunately Caradon's lead only lasted minutes as they uncharacteristically switched off at the back allowing Duchy to sweep in from the right and place the ball passed the Caradon keeper. The second half was more of the same. Strong defending mixed with the occasional attack. Caradon retook the lead with some good work from Finn Andrews and Chris Fasey and ultimately the ball coming to Tyler Walsh to smash home. With 5mins to go Duchy took off their goalkeeper for an extra outfield player and Caradon nearly took full advantage straight away, but for a stray pass the the goal gaping. Duchy took heart and pressed harder again creating several short corner chances before finally scoring with the last touch of the game. Heartbreak for Caradon who, on paper, shouldn't have had a look in, but were ultimately disappointed with a draw.
