Match Report | Caradon III 5 v St Austell 2 This was Caradons' third string first ever win in a cup competition game, which shows how well the team have improved over the last few seasons. The first goal came from Bryony Gubbins after a positive run into the D gave her the time to slot the ball home. The second came from some superb play from Charlie Harris who beat 3 defenders to slip the ball to Zoe Harris (mum) to slap home. The first half finished 2-0 to the home side but they knew St Austell would want to come out fighting. Caradon kept up the pressure and within a few minutes Katie Johnston scored her first of the match after a goal line scramble. St Austell however never let their heads go down and got a goal back halfway through the second half from a well taken short corner which lifted their spirits and gave them the confidence to push harder. Caradon stood firm and with the halves battling hard they scored another 2 goals; both through Katie Johnston. With Caradon showing signs of tiredness St Austell managed to sneak in another goal to close the game 5 - 2. A fantastic game from young keeper Emily Joyce who stepped up from the 4th team for this weeks game. Player of the match was a 3 way tie; Charlie Harris, Delia Woodman & Bryony Gubbins. Same again next week team!!! |
