Match Report | This weekend saw a top of table clash against unbeaten Penzance 2s sitting comfortable at the top of the league with Caradon holding on to 2nd place with OPM chasing their tails. Penzance were strong from the start with well schooled passes and great individual skill. The defence of Kerryn Walsh, Josie Dudley and Jeanette Turpin stood strong with Lauren Bowdler stopping any attempt at goal. Just before half time Erryn Lockett won a short corner for the home side who up to this point hadn’t had a lot of chances in front of goal. Shelley Lockett received the push out slipped to Pippa Hedley who passed it square across the goal to unmarked Delia Woodman to smash home. Caradon were elated to be a goal in front but knew them had to up their game to keep this lead. The half time discussion focused on winning the 50/50 balls and keeping procession but Penzance came out fighting and pressured the Caradon goal winning numerous short corners, Caradon stood firm but half way through the second half a goal line scramble resulted in Penzance levelling the score. The last few minutes of game seemed to drag and through grit and determination Caradon managed to hold on to the draw. Player of the Match was Kerryn Walsh for her excellent defensive play on the right of the pitch. Caradon slipped to 3rd in the table as OPMs managed a win against the Caradon 4th string but with 4 games to go anything could happen. |
