Match Report | Caradon Ladies 2s were back in action at the weekend after a 3 week break, as they travelled down West to face league strugglers Truro. With no selection worries and the squad keen to get back on the pitch following the extended absence, Caradon were ready to go from the first whistle. The midfield and forwards looked strong and confident on the ball and piled on the pressure. Keeper Eddy and skipper Spencer, at central defence, were onlookers only for much of the first quarter. The Truro keeper, however, was a deft shot stopper and mobile in the goal mouth and managed to keep out wave after wave of Caradon attack. Breaks out of defence for the Truro side were limited in number and any real chances on goal were few and far between, with much of the play being intercepted by EJ Mullis in fine form at the sweeper position. An early half time whistle led to some confusion and a requirement to return to the pitch to play an additional four minutes, but this left limited time to capitalise on an additional spell of pressure and the half term score remained 0-0. Caradon returned after the half time break with renewed urgency, keen to convert the pressure advantage into goals. Truro also appeared rejuvenated and were much more of a threat in the second half, in turn putting pressure on the Caradon goal. However, the deadlock was to be broken when Caradon striker Laura Hill put away her first of the day. Unfortunately, the lead was not to be enjoyed for long, with some loose play starting to appear in midfield and Caradon starting to look a little tired. Truro made a number of timely interceptions and from one such opportunity, pushed forward into the Caradon D to put the ball onto a defender's foot. Expecting the umpire to blow for a short corner, defensive hesitation allowed the centre forward to get a smart shot away and under the keeper for an equalising goal. Caradon heads did not go down, but as time ticked away the misery of a draw from this fixture seemed a realistic prospect. The attacking moves continued to come for Caradon with Daisy Hunn looking strong on the left hand side and plenty of endeavour from the midfield of Harris, May and the Jones sisters. Longrigg and Tuxford continued to make space up front and apply pressure on the Truro defence. The final goal was a second for Man of the Match Hill after a strong driving run and neatly slotted ball past the outstretched foot of the Truro keeper. It was with much relief that the East Cornwall side managed to close the game out with a final winning score of 2-1. The Ladies 2s are at Lux Park this Saturday to face Plymouth Marjons Ladies 3s, 12:00 pushback.
