Match Report | An away trip to Pool Academy to face Duchy (currently lying second in Trelawney Division 1) was the order of the day for Caradon Ladies 2s last weekend. This was always going to be a difficult fixture against the consistently strong opposition and with a number of regulars missing, Caradon called upon the services of Delia Woodman and Nic Batten to boost the squad. Without the weight of expectation of a win, Caradon were able to relax into the game and found time and space to put together some good spells of possession and excellent passing play. Hunn and Ridgers, combined well in midfield, with Woodman and Batten contributing confidently from the wide left position. An unfortunate penalty corner for the home team in the first quarter, was well converted allowing Duchy to take the lead. However, this spurred Caradon on to create opportunities of their own and within the next 10 minutes they’d equalised through a driving ball into the D which was guided goalwards by striker Laura Hill. Caradon continued to apply the pressure, with Claire Brown acting quickly to take free hits and create a number of driving runs down the right hand side. The half time score-line of 1-1 meant there was much to be positive about and Caradon came out for the second half looking to take the game to Duchy. However, the quality and strength of the Duchy side saw a couple of quick fire goals which effectively put the game to bed. Duchy continued to pressurise and with the game getting closer to the final whistle, passions started to rise and EJ Mullis, who had been kept well occupied as defensive pivot, was shown a green card for a stick tackle. Duchy found time for a further goal, to bring the score to a comfortable 4-1 and were unlucky not to add another, which was expertly saved off the line by Man of the Match Brown. Caradon heads did not go down and they battled right through to the final whistle, including a couple of notable attacks on goals. The closest effort coming from a Katie Jones steal in the middle of the park followed by a driving run and linkage with Hill, who was unfortunately denied by the goal keeper. The ladies face another tough fixture this weekend, when they entertain league leaders Penzance at Lux Park. Push back at 12:00. |
