Match Report |
Caradon Ladies 2s were looking for all three points from last weeks encounter with Newquay 2s, after managing much of the possession but only a draw in the away fixture in October. Confidence was high going in to the match and with a strong squad, the prospects of a win looked good. However Newquay had other ideas and put pressure on Caradon right from the whistle. After soaking up an initial pressure, Caradon started to look more in control and put together some good attacking play of their own. Against the run of play, the Newquay centre forward latched onto a well placed through ball and found space to get a shot away in the D that somehow got past keeper Eddy to give the away team the lead. This was followed by a spell of conserted effort from Caradon and the persistent Sadie Mullis made a strong run down the right and along the baseline to slot neatly home from a tight angle to bring the score level. Caradon continued to have much of the possession and created opportunities for centre forward Laura Hill, who's close control and eye for goal meant she was not to be deniedon two occasions. Newquay had many less chances on goal but made the most of the ones they did have, equalising at 3-3 with less than 10 minutes to go. With passions running high, Caradon continued to push forward and create chances, with MOM Charlie Harris enjoying plenty of space to drive fowards from mid field. A flying shot from Jayne Longrigg was not far wide and a disallowed third goal for Hill denied her of a hatrick and Caradon of the win. The game finished a disappointing 3-3. This weekend the ladies travel to second placed Duchy for what will doubtless be a demanding fixture.
