Match Report | It was a true case of the January Blues for Caradon Ladies 2nd team on Saturday as they braved the wet and wild weather in a home fixture against local rivals Bodmin. The game was consistently paced throughout, with Bodmin enjoying more of the possession and looking the more in command of the two teams. Their link play was particularly strong and when combined with drive and determination on the ball, they piled pressure on the Caradon defence and made it difficult for the home team to put together their attacking moves. In-form keeper and Caradon Man of the Match, Bekki Eddy, made a number of key saves but a Bodmin penalty corner half way through the first half was expertly struck by Gemma Cliffe to beat Eddy's outstretched left hand. A second goal was added just before half time to bring the visitors in to the break, 2-0 up. There was true belief that Caradon could claw back the deficit, and the second half saw more chances start to appear. However, a third Bodmin goal after 10 minutes effectively put the game to bed. Caradon upped their physical efforts but this was at the expense of maintaining their shape and control on the ball. An unfortunate injury also saw pivot player Alice May hobble off the pitch to sit out the final quarter of the game. Despite some desperate defending and an airborne goal line clearance from captain Rachael Spencer, Bodmin finished off in style with a passing move from half way, ending with a reverse stick strike over the advancing keeper to bring their final tally to 4. The ladies have another tough fixture this Saturday, away to Plym Valley who are currently 12 points above them in the league. |
