Match Report | After the long Christmas break, Caradon Ladies IIs were looking for a strong start the second half of the season as they travelled down to Penryn to face Falmouth IIs. Concerns about a frozen pitch for the early game proved unfounded as temperatures increased and the sun shone down west. The 12 players of Caradon were further heartened to discover that Falmouth had only the bare eleven and so were without substitutes. From the first whistle the game was very closely fought with good passing play and quick breaks. The home team, however, looked slightly more determined and were quicker to any loose balls, in turn converting this into pressure on the Caradon defence. The first goal came from an overload situtation with a Falmouth attacker finding herself in space to strike confidently home, out of reach of keeper Bekki Eddy. Falmouth created a number of short corner opportunities but these were expertly dealt with by the Caradon runners Emma-Jayne Mullis and Georgia Hall to ensure the score remained 1-0 at half time. Some slight changes to formation for the second half saw Nat Ridgers moved into centre mid field and Alice May moved up front alongside Laura Hill (welcomed into the second eleven as she works her way back up through the squads to first team fitness following the arrival of baby Florence in August). With all players re-energised, Caradon passing play looked sharper and more controlled and the attack were able to push forward to create penalty corner opportunities. One such opportunity saw Laura Hill place the ball deftly past the keeper to bring the score-line to 1-1. The game could easily have gone either way, but with the Caradon midfield tiring, Falmouth were able to create chances on the break and added 2 more goals to their tally in the next 10 minutes. For the final quarter, the pressure was mainly with Caradon. Joint players of the Match, Charlie Harris and Laura Hill, combined well to take the game into the Falmouth defensive quarter, but with Hill hitting the post and shooting narrowly wide, the visitors could not improve on their first goal. The game finished a slightly flattering 3-1 win to Falmouth. This weekend see the 2nd eleven ladies at home to local rivals Bodmin. 12:00 push back at Lux Park.
