Match Report

CARADON Men's second team did enough to ensure there is everything to play for going into the last game of the season against DART.  However this could and probably should have been much more than a draw as Caradon had two goals by Mike Parkinson and Ben Hedley disallowed in bizarre fashion.  Mike Parkinson had his goal disallowed by the furthest umpire because his shot was deemed dangerous even though nobody was close by.  Ben Hedley soon got Caradon on the scoresheet when Thomas Rowe played a clever pass through the middle which provided space for Hedley to run into and collect the next pass which he slotted home under the keepers dive.  Plymouth University soon drew level only for Caradon to retake the lead 30 seconds before half time when David Lockett finally made use of a short corner.  Caradon had numerous chances to extent their lead as they dominated possession only for the students to draw level with 15 minutes remaining and despite plenty of pressure Caradon were unable to find a winner.  Friday see the second team visit Totnes to play DART knowing a win will secure the runners up spot a year after finishing bottom of this Division.  With an almost full squad to choose from, the only one key player missing will be keeper Toby Riddle.  The first team keeper did make himself available but for such a game this was felt to be an inapproriate selection so 14 year old George Rowe gets an opportunity to demonostrate his potential.  Lets hope DART have a similar philosophy (there is nothing to suggest they don't) and that come the day the best second team prevails and secures promotion to South West One.
