Match Report

Caradon 1st team entertained local rivals Tavistock in thier penultimate league game, under the watchful eye of gold medal olympian Kate Richarson-Walsh.

Caradon, fielding a full strength squad for the first time this season, started confidently and had the majority of play. The young keeper from Tavistock was being tested but the deadlock was finally broken when a penalty corner was converted by Beth Harris at the near post after a clean strike from top goal scorer Bizzie Dinnis.

With the whole squad working hard to maintain a high press , Caradon enjoyed plenty of possesion and were pinning the visitors into thier own half. Pivot player, Nic Dymond was in complete control and as the half time whistle came Caradon looked focused on getting the job done.

Inspiring words from the VIP hockey legend at the half time huddle only fuelled the home team to play at an even greater pace and push on for the win. Captain, Clare Poad, was the next on the scoresheet after a solo run and strike from the top of the circle found the bottom corner. The next ten minutes saw Caradon purring. A good passing move was finished by winger, Lauren Gouge who swept the ball under the now isolated keeper. Bizzie Dinnis got her rewards after rounding the keeper for goal number 4, this was after some mesmorizing stick skills to beat the frustrated defenders.

Tavistock did manage to get a goal back but it was too little too late and it was Caradon who had the last laugh when Gouge brilliantly deflected in a cross from Poad to make the final score 5-1 and sweet revenge was Caradons after the earlier fixture between the two teams saw Caradon heavly defeated.

This was a complete squad victory as all 14 players played an important part and could all celebrate at the 10 year anniversary gala dinner that evening.

With one rearranged game left to play a top three finish is still possilble if other results go thier way.
