Match Report

Caradon entertained high flying Exeter University on Saturday and ran out convincing winners.

After the previos weeks win, Caradon started in confident fashion and within the first four minutes took a deserving lead. Captain, Clare Poad, smashed home her first of the day from a penalty corner. This was not what the visitors were expecting and the lead was soon doubled after good build up play from Helen Manley and Carrina Hodge, found Poad at the top of the circle to fire home into the net.

The students were rattled and Caradon continued to work hard to turn over possesion at every oppertunity. Marcia Burgess battled and harrased at every oppertunity, earning herslf a green card for being a little bit too competative!

Bizzie Dinnis reacted first to the award of a free hit just outside the 22 meter line and drove forward, unchallenged, into the circle. By the time Exeter realised the danger, it was too late and Dinnis slotted home past the dispondant keeper.

The score could have increased again before half time if not for the premature umpire whistle which saw Dinnis solo run resulting in only a penalty corner and not a goal.

Caradon were in a bit of shock in how well the game was going and the half time talk was focused on not letting the dominant display slip. Nic Dymond and Beth Harris were controlling play and the grip on the game was tightening. Poad and Dinnis were working brilliantly together to force more goal chances, with Dinnis scoring her second of the day after good build up play.

As Caradon started to take thier foot off the peddle, Exeter were awarded numerous penalty corners. The defense of Lucie Kay, Amy Batty, Fleur Worden and keeper Helen Delbridge, were determined to keep another clean sheet and defended like trojans.

It was left to player of the match, Poad to finish the convincing performance from another well taken penalty corner routine.

Caradon travel to Taunton tomorrow, looking to avenge the reverse fixture when it was Taunton who ran out convincing winners.
