Women's 3rd XI Vs Plym Valley II

A great 2-0 win over promotion pushing Plym Valley 2's on Saturday has left Caradon 3rds celebrating their spot at the top of the league; what a season these girls are having so far!! This team has come so far in a year and are really beginning to bond and work well together. Saturday saw some great spells of well structured hockey.

The first 10 minutes however saw the visiting team have the upper hand but Caradons' defence of Delia Woodman, Josie Dudley, Jeanette Turpin, Nic Batten and Lucie Kay confidently dealt with Plyms Valleys attempts on goal with Keeper Lauren Bowdler clearly kicking anything close to her goal positively out of the 'D'. Caradon then settled into the game and began to make in roads into the Plym twenty five. The midfeild worked hard to intercept the ball and feed it back up the field, Erryn Lockett running well on the left  finally won a short corner and Laura Hill just missed the goal with her powerful strike, however a few minutes later she was awarded for her efforts when she drove the ball into the D and struck gold. Just before half time came the second goal when Katie Johnston picked up the ball at the top of 'D' and layed it off to unmarked Bryony Gubbins who slotted it home. This 2 goal lead gave Caradon a bit of breathing space and they settle into a more passing game. The second half saw Plym up their game to try and push towards the home teams goal but again the defence stood strong. Midfielders Kerryn Walsh, Shelley Lockett, Pippa Hedley, Charlotte Reed and Abbi Strevens ran tirelessly in the second half to break down the Plyms play and the game finished 2-0. Player of the match was given to Lucie Kay dominated the middle of the pitch and frustrated the Plyms forwards. Well done girls!!!
