Match Report | Caradon got thier first win of the league campaign with a resounding 5-1 win over Okehampton. Continuing with thier new formation, Caradon started confidently and started to create pressure in the attacking quarter of the pitch. Beth Harris worked well with Lauren Gouge on the left but it wasn't until play was switched to the right that Caradon started to have chances on goal. Sadie Mullis grew in confidance and combined well with the forwards to ensure Caradon got behind the Okehampton defence and have clear shots on goal. Player of the match, Bizzie Dinnis, scored the first of her goals mid way through the first half. After good build up play, Dinnis calmly beat two flat footed defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Caradon continued to push forward, looking to extend thier lead before half time. Clare Poad took a quick sideline hit on the left and found herself in the circle, her pass back to Dinnis was bundled over the line and the score line was 2-0 at the break. Caradon started the second half strongly. Marcia Burgess was commanding in the centre of the pitch and with Helen Manley looking cool and composed and carving through Okehamptons defence with pin point accurate passes, penalty corners were being awarded freely. Alice Mays' powerful penalty corner injections allowed the waiting players to try various options. Shots were raining in on the keeper and a rebound was pounced on by Poad who fired home. Another routine saw Mays' shot saved off the line only for Manley to flick home. 4-0 and Caradon were cruising. A flying save from keeper Helen Dellbridge should have been enough to keep a clean sheet but Okehampton somehow managed to scramble a goal back. Carrina Hodge worked tirelessly and with two minutes remaining won a tackle and released Dinnis to score her hatrick and seal a great team performance. The league continues in 2 weeks when Caradon will look to continue to climb the league when the travel to Exeter to play Exe 3s. |
