Match Report

Although well beaten by the better team, Caradon were pleased with thier performance and will take many positives into next weeks game.

Exeter University were in control from the start, patiently switching play and having the majority of possesion. Caradon were playing in a new formation to try and nullify attacks into the circle, and it was working. Showing great discipline, the team pressed the ball in the right areas and limited the students to penalty corners. Three of these were converted with the ball bobbling over the line, much to the visitors frustration.  At the half time talk, the mood was positive and Caradon came out fighting and were determined not to roll over.

Player of the match, Beth Harris, was starting to win her battles in the midfield and force the students into mistakes. Caradon were now starting to see more of the ball. Marcia Burgess, returning to the first team after a season out, made many attacking runs and installed belief that Caradon could match thier opponents and the team visable grew in confidance. Despite conceeding another goal, Caradon got the goal they deserved when a straight ball from Lauren Gouge found skipper, Clare Poad with only the keeper to beat. A reverse shot found the back board much to the delight of the hard working Cornish team.

Caradon look forward to entertained Taunton at home next week at 3pm with the full squad available for selection for the first time this season.
