Match Report |
Caradon 2s travelled a short journey to Bodmin for their first away game of the campaign, against a strong Bodmin side determined to return to South Division after coming down this season. That in mind, Caradon knew they had to attack from the first whistle.
The first 20 minutes of the first half were evenly balanced, but with only a few opportunities at each end, most of the play was in the middle of the pitch where both teams struggled to make a break. Bodmin were easily the more slick of the two teams, passing the ball across the midfield line with what looked like much ease. However, the return of Sadie Mullis to the team made an instant impact with her fearless runs down the wing causing concern for the Bodmin defence – earning her the Player of the Match title.
Unfortunately with Claire Brown getting injured and no sub on the line for the first half, Caradon were weakened in that area for the final minutes of the game so were keen so defend and not push forward. The home side won a short corner in literally the last minute before half time and converted when a forward player found space and time to strike.
Determined not to let the lead increase, Caradon came out in the second half with much more positivity and strength. Numerous opportunities and shots on goal were handed to them in the first 10 minutes but it was to be one of those days when nothing would go in. Both forwards Sarah ‘Browner’ Strevens and Jayne Longrigg had strong hits denied when suddenly Bodmin broke free with a counter attack. With quick passes down the left side they headed towards goal and scored making it 2-0 to the home team.
It could have been more with Bodmin shots going just past the post a number of times before the end of the game, where it did indeed finish 2-0.
Caradon were simply outplayed by a better team, who took their chances on goal and got the rewards. But, heads won’t be down when they face Plym Valley back at home at Lux Park tomorrow – keen to get that first win and three points.
