Match Report

Trelawney Division 1
Caradon 2: 3
Falmouth 2: 3

Caradon 2s began their second season in Trelawney Division 1 with a home match against Falmouth 2 and after close meetings last year, this match was to be another tight contest.
With the team fairly unchanged from last season, new captain Rachael Spencer selected Daisy Hunn, Leah Jones and Alice May to make their debuts on Saturday adding new midfield and wing options.

Caradon started strong and dominated the first quarter with the new additions fitting in well, Daisy made excellent fast runs up the wing putting pressure on the Falmouth defence and it wasn't long before another one of the fresh faces made her mark on the game. The home side won a short corner early in the first half and a top of the D strike from Sarah 'Browner' Strevens found Leah on the right hand post to deflect the ball into the goal to get Caradon up and running.
With all the action seeming to be in the Caradon attacking half it wasn't long before they were 2-0 up. Pushing forward, Alice May's pass into the D got past the last defender to Helen Manley standing alone infront of the keeper with time to strike and make it 2. The home team knew they couldn't let their guard down however with so much of the game left to play. Falmouth knew they were still in it and sneaked a goal back just before the half time break.

After a positive and constructive half time talk, both teams came out fighting knowing that there was still plenty to play for. After a long and exhausting period of end to end chances and particularly superb and quick reactive saves from Caradon goalie Bekki Eddy, the score remained 2-1 for some time before Caradon got the break. With the attacking two of Browner and Jayne Longrigg being supported by Natalie Ridgers on the wing, they pressed forward towards goal and a quick one two pass from Jayne reached Helen once again in position to lift the ball over the sliding Falmouth goalkeeper.
Caradon were perhaps too laid back at the 3-1 scoreline and Falmouth found their fire and started to pepper the goal with close range shots, once again cleared by Bekki and the strong back quartet of Rachael, Nicola Dymond, Claire Brown and Georgia Hall - who also made an earlier impressive goal line clearance. But a quick counter attack by the visitors caught the defence off guard as they slotted home to close the gap to 3-2.

Tempers and loose stick tackles started to show as Leah gained a green card and later, a yellow card was shown to a Falmouth midfielder. With only a few minutes left of the game, frustratingly for Caradon it was Falmouth who got the next goal, an equaliser, after a scrappy ball in the D found its way bobbling over the line to end the game 3-3.

Despite the frustration of losing a lead, Caradon take a point and take the positives from the game showing how far the team has come, and with new additions have already started to gel as they aim to build their presence and cement their position in Trelawney 1. They travel away to Bodmin tomorrow.
