Match Report |
A weakened Caradon 2nd team took on the students on Plymouth University to mark ther end of the first half of the hockey season. Caradon lost a number of players to the first team and were further weakened by an illness bug that had struck taking Mike Parkinson and Ian Harris out of action. Nevertheless Caradon made a positive start and when Captain David Lockett took a quick free hit and drove the ball into the D Jake Andrews was on hand to push the ball between the legs of the keeper for an early lead. Despite fine work at the back from Tristan Young, who cleared the ball of the line, the students were soon level through a short corner which was flicked past Toby Riddle in goal. The students had a number of further short corners but were unable to capitalise until a worked ball down the right was driven into the D and quickly slotted home to level Caradon trailing 2-1 at half time. The second half was a more even encounter as Caradon looked to get back into the game but a sucker punch enable the students to extend their lead as a weak shoot was left by Riddle as it looked to be going wide only for it to catch the inside of the post and nestle in the goal. Caradon were unable to maintain any shape with numerous passes going straight to the oppostion which allowed Plymouth Uni to easily run down the clock. Jake Andrews picked up the man of the match award whilst Toby Riddle was awarded the Muppet of the match having probably voted for himself! Caradon must put this game aside as a bad day at the office and now look to bounce back through the visit of Tavistock next weekend in the last game before Christmas.
