Match Report |
This proved to be a very tough fixture against an OPM team that had only won twice this season. OPM's bossed the first half and created four guilt edge chances; one hit the bar, one was well saved by Toby Riddle in goal and two went agonisingly wide of the post. Caradon also created chances having forced 3 short corners but although they made the keeper make saves they were saves he would have expected to make comfortably. Caradon were ultimately lucky to go in at half time all square. Caradon showed more composure in the second half with William Turpin once again coming to the fore with some incisive breaks from midfield. One such break created space for David Lockett who worked the ball onto his reverse stick and hit it towards the left hand post. The keeper got his foot to the ball but it squirmed off the inside of his leg into the goal. The lead lasted 10 minutes as OPMs' fought back and with their first short corner they managed to get a drag flick on target and although Riddle got a hand on the ball it was not enough to keep it out. It was the first goal Caradon had conceded in 6 matches. The game became stretched as both team looked for a winner, but it was Turpin that looked the most threatening as he worked space down the right and with a perfect pass in field Mike Parkinson was at hand to drill the ball between the keeper’s leg for the second goal. Caradon had 12 minutes to hold out and this they did without allowing OPMs another shot on target as the defence marshalled by Rapper Tamblin stood firm. Will Turpin was named Man of the Match for the second game running and the absent Paul Rowe picked up the Muppet award! Next week’s visit by Plymouth University will surely be another stiff test as Caradon look to maintain their position just a point behind leaders Dart.
