Match Report | Caradon Men’s 1st XI, after last weeks heavy loss, needed to decent result against a struggling Sidmouth and Ottery team. Caradon however found themselves under instant pressure, the away team broke down their left, the caradon team was slow to react, leaving a player free at the back post to put the Devon team ahead within 30 seconds.
Caradon gathered themselves and took the game to the away team, lead by the youngest player on the pitch, Ben Hedley, Caradon won a short corner which Fasey hit into the bottom corner levelling the game at one a piece. Continuing to apply pressure Caradon attacked, with the ball fed from the middle wide to Luke Jeffery who beat his man and threaded the ball through to Lawrence at the back post who put Caradon ahead. Both teams continued to have chances as the first half came to an end.
The second half started like the first, Caradon gave the ball away, Sidmouth attacking down the left, a miss hit shot carrying wide to find an unmarked player at the back post for a tap in. One against Caradon step back into to play, Leon and Finn working hard in the middle to press the away team back into their own half and a cleaver bit of quick thinking from Finn won Caradon another short corner. The defenders on the line and the cross bar proved resistant denying a couple Caradon attempts but with a planned routine the ball ended up with Martin Batty who smashed the ball through the defence and put Caradon ahead again.
The momentum was now with Caradon who continued to press forward not happy with a one goal lead, a ball in from player of the match Luke Jeffery found the captain, Fasey, at the top of the D, who rolled onto his reverse beating the keeper at the near post.
With a two goal cushion Caradon were in charge and still pressing forward Luke fired in a ball from the right, a messy scramble and a finally being put over the line by Leon securing the victory.
Caradon walked off the pitch with a positive attitude and looking to carry the momentum forward to Exeter this coming Saturday. |
