Match Report |
This was a tighly fought game with clear chances at a premium as the defences of both team were in control for much of the game. Not a single short corner was awarded in the first half but the best chance fell to Caradon when a strong hit into the D from the left gave Paul Rowe an opportunity but he was unable to make any contact and the ball slipped by the post for a 16 hit out. The second half started in similar fashion but after 10 minutes Caradon Captain David Lockett picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and found he had plenty of room to run into. His run took him into the Penzance D and room to shoot. His flicked shot wrong footed the keeper and although he got his stick on the ball he was unable to keep it out. Penzance came back strong and forced a couple of short corners but were unable to capitalise. Caradon also forced a couple of short corners but again nothing resulted. Mike Parkinson was playing his best game of the season bossing the midfield and was duly named the man of the match and as the final whistle approached Caradon were not left to rue another golden opportunity as a short corner saw a shot heading towards the waiting Thomas Rowe but he, like his father before him, was unable to get any contact on the ball and deflect it goal bound. The final score of 1-0 was a magnificent result given that the second team had lost a number of key players to the first team and the Dominos Pizzas afterwards were a just reward for the effort put in by the entire team. With no league game this weekend the team will be up against the Penzance first team on Sunday in the Cup competition. Penzance play three Divisions higher than Caradon so this will be a chance for the young guns of Caradon to show the big boys that they are decent hockey players in the making.
