Match Report

After going four games with out a point Caradon Men’s 1st XI were gunning for a result this Saturday against a physical OPM team. Straight from the first whistle Caradon took control of the game, pressing the away team back into their half and breaking up their rhythm. Despite all the pressure Caradon were unable to find a final product in the opposition D, weathering the storm the Plymouth team started to warm up and create chance of their own with some well produced attacked through the mid field.

Caradon continued to attack with Luke Jeffery exploring the right side of the pitch with explosive pace, the only answer OPM had was to foul and give away a short corner. With a spot on injection from Neil Spencer, Fasey found the back of the net with a drag flick putting Caradon a head.

OPM responded through the middle of the pitch, winning a couple short corners of their own, with last weeks record the Caradon defensive team were anxious but with calm head managed to stop the attempts. The half time whistle blew with Caradon 1-0 a head.

The second half OPM came out more physical and determined than the first half, Caradon countered this with possession hockey, not wanting to give away the easy turn over. Moving up as a team Caradon won another short corner, with the break down Leon took the ball to the right, found himself in space and struck the ball hard into the bottom corner.

The away team hadn’t given up and the game became more feisty. Jeffery got sent to the sin bin with a yellow card, Caradon reformed and held the ball waiting for an opportunity to attack while defending against the extra player. With Luke rejoining the pitch Batty attacked down the right, hammering the ball across the face of goal, the keeper got a toe to the ball deflecting it to a waiting Steven Hayes, who put the ball back into the D, Pollard picked up the ball, rolled onto his reverse and slotted the ball past the keeper and giving Caradon a three goal lead.

In the closing minutes the Plymouth team were after a consolation goal winning a short corner before the final whistle. Caradon saw off three attempts before finally bring the game to an end with a clean sheet and a 3-0 win.
