Match Report

Caradon arrived at Pool Academy hoping to avoid being blown off track by a combination of Duchy Hockey Club and Storm Brian.  Duchy applied early pressure and forced a couple of early penalty corners that were well dealt with by a defence marshalled by Mike Parkinson and Rapper Tamblin; both playing their first game of the season for the second team.  At the other end Ben Hedley and Will Turpin were starting to cause the Duchy defenders all sorts of problems and from one mazy run from the 25yd line Hedley dribbled passed 3 defenders and then flicked the ball over the keeper only to see the ball ricochet away off the post. Caradon took the lead through their second short corner when Captain David Lockett repeated his trick from the last league match and drilled it just inside the near post.  Further pressure from the Caradon forward line saw a short game of pinball result in Jake Andrews squeeze the ball home from less than a metre to register his first goal of the season.  Just before half time Will Turpin capped off a more asthetically pleasing bit of team hockey with a good finish from 5 metres out to leave the score 3-0 at half time.  The second half was greeted by heavy rain that did little to incentivise good hockey but Caradon continued to carve out good chances with Will Turpin adding a 4th after 10 minutes to put the game beyond doubt.  Several of the defenders tried to get in on the scoring act but both Paul Rowe and Neil Jones squandered decent chances.  At the other end George Rowe had a good game in goal, for his first league game at this level, pulling of a couple of decent saves that prevented Duchy from getting back into the game and a 4-0 scoreline was probably a just reflection on the game.  Ben Hedley and Will Turpin were named joint players of the match whilst the Muppet of the match was a harder decision to make.  Many thought the Cammando brothers of Ian Harris and Richard Turpin were obvious favourites however the final decision went in favour of Paul Rowe who may well have been stitched up by his two sons!!
