Match Report

Caradon Men's Second team had a tough trip to Truro to play their 4th team who had scored 13 unanswered games passed Caradon last season and would have been promoted but for the performance of their third team who finished in the relegation places in the division above and thus stopped them from being promoted.  The scale of the task became immediately apparent as Truro camped in the Caradon half and squandered a number of short corner opportunities.  Then against the run of play Ben Hedley went on one of has mazy runs into the D and flicked the ball past the goalkeeper to give Caradon a surprise lead.  The lead only lasted a couple of minutes as Truro broke down the left and managed to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle.  Caradon fought back and just before half time Jake Andrews almost struck home from a tight angle but shortly after Caradon were awarded their first short corner which David Lockett drilled into the goal to make the score 2-1 at half time.  A rattled Truro clearly had words at half time and they upped intensity at the start of the second half.  From their first short corner of the half they got a shot away that the defender on the line (no names Skipper!) was unable to keep out.  Within a minute Truro had taken the lead as a shot was well saved by Toby Riddle but came back of the bar and was subsequently force over the line despite the diving efforts of Ian Harris.  Five minutes later Truro had given themselves some breathing space with another short corner that rocketed into the goal.  Caradon fought hard to get back into the game with Ben Hedley causing the defence all sorts of problems with his pace and stick control but the game was put to bed with 5 minutes remaining when another shot couldn’t be kept out by the well positioned defender on the line.  Ben Hedley was rightly named man of the match and next up for Caradon is their first home game of the season against free scoring Torbay.
