Match Report | Caradon ladies 3rd team were drawn against Penzance 2nd team in the Cornwall plate competition. On a very wet Saturday afternoon enthusiasm was low to get warmed up and ready for the start of this game. Caradon however started really strong and moved the ball up the pitch into the Penzance danger area much to the surprise of the Penzance team. They kept up this pressure and were unlucky not to get a goal with Katie Jones. Karen Dyer and Bryony Gubbins getting close. Penzance finally found there feet and started passing the ball around and managed to get one goal past Caradons keeper Lauren Bowdler who of late has been playing with a new found confidence (thanks to extra coaching provided by the club). The first half finished 1-0 to Penzance. Captain Shelley Lockett praised the team at half time but prepared them to brace themselves as Penzance weren't happy with their goal tally and knew they would come out with bitter force in the second half. Penzance indeed did come out all guns blazing but Caradon stood firm and battled well thwarting their efforts. It was only through a short corner that they managed to get another goal. Caradon regrouped and again pushed forward; a lovely run up the wing by Leah Jones into the D and onto the defenders foot gave Caradon a chance through a short corner, Josie Dudley stepped up to strike and after a nifty defection from Chloe Higman Caradon were on the score sheet. This gave the travelling side a burst of energy and within a few minutes had equalised through yet another defection this time from Karen Dyer, this upset the Penzance team and they retaliated pushing hard for goal. Daisy Hunn, Jeanette Turpin, Abbi Strevens, Lockett, Emma Link & Dudley had to work hard with well timed tackles, blocks and clear the ball from their danger area. In the dying minutes Penzance quick passing paid off and they managed to get a couple of quick goals leaving them 4-2 winners in this enjoyable but physical game. |
