Match Report |
Caradon entertained Falmouth in the final league game of the season and earnt a well deserved point.
Falmouth started extremely strongly and were soon 2-0 up and the home team had hardly touched the ball. Undeterred, Caradon held their composure and managed to bag themselves a goal. Good work from Joely Bytheway on the right saw the ball, at last, in the opponents circle and was swiftly swept home by Olivia Childs. Falmouth broke quickly after the restart and the half time whistle came with the scores 3-1 in the visitors favour.
The team talk was focused on maintaining possession of the ball and the second half saw Caradon with a lot more of the ball and chances were now beginning to be created. Player of the match Carina Batten was dominating the midfield and her strong runs had turned momentum in the home sides favour. Captain Clare Poad swept home to reduce arrears and install belief that the comeback was on.
Falmouths’ goalkeeper had to make some great saves but could do nothing about the equaliser. A penalty corner routine was dispatched by Bizzie Dinnis, her shot clipping the top of the backboard. At this moment Caradon would have settled for a point but the game was there to be won. After good play by Childs whose through ball found Poad in the circle the forward made no mistake with her shot and Caradon took the lead for the first time of the match. With 5 minutes remaining Falmouth grabbed an equaliser and the points were shared. A fair result, but Caradon left the happier after completing the comeback and this will give them confidence going into the county cup final in 2 weeks time.
