Match Report

Caradon travelled to Bodmin for their penultimate game of the season and came home with all three points. After not playing last week Caradon started with boundless energy and the Bodmin players were left chasing shadows. The first twenty minutes saw good interplay between the midfielders of Beth Harris and Carina Batten but with few goalmouth chances it fell to left back Fleur Worden to cross a long ball into the circle to the unmarked skipper Clare Poad. The first time shot found the corner but this goal proved to inspire the already relegated Bodmin to start to contest and the game was now going to be a good battle.
There was no more score at the half time break, but it was Bodmin who were playing the better hockey and caradon looked panicked on the ball and struggled to maintain possession. Bodmin took advantage and soon levelled the scores but as with the first goal of the day this seemed to act as a catalyst for the conceding team. With a slight tactical change it was now Caradon who were more assertive. The game was end to end and both teams were making the spectators hearts beat a little quicker. As Bodmin pushed forward, player of the match Julia Eldridge, swept up and cleared her lines with composure.
A perfect through ball from Bizzie Dinnis to Clare Poad in the circle looked sure to result in a goal but a Bodmin defender crudely made a foul which should have resulted in a penalty flick, but with both umpires having indecisive games a penalty corner was awarded. A pin point accurate injection from Harris to Poad at the top of the circle was followed by the sweetest of strikes to crash the backboard.
With ten minutes remaining Caradon looked to steady the ship, knowing that Bodmin were struggling to score open play goals, Caradon held the play in their attacking half.
The final whistle game and Caradon were jubilant with the result and equally happy with the discipline and determination they showed even when decisions were not going their way.
Caradon and Bodmin will face each other in the county cup final in April and another exciting game is in prospect.
