Match Report

The curtain came down on the first season of league hockey for Caradon Mens second team with a hard fought draw against third placed OPMs which only goes to highlight the progress made by the team.  In the first half of the season the team played 9 lost 9 scored 1 and conceded 64 goals but this was transformed in the second half of the season as the last 9 games saw the team pick up a win and draw a further 3 games scoring 14 more goals and conceding just 20 as the defence became more secure.  The development of the youngster has been the bedrock of the improvement with Will Turpin, Jake Wright, Matthew Lampshire, Oliver Hedges and Harrison Pollard showing significant improvement over the course of the season.  In the last game of the season Caradon recovered from conceding an early goal, from a deflected short corner, to quickly draw level as David Lockett was allowed to run into the D and slot home off the far post.  Caradon then took the lead from a well worked goal in which Harrison Pollard kept his composure to flick the ball over the keeper into the roof of the net.  Unfortunately another short corner, just before half time, saw OPMs draw level but it was clear the opposition were rattled.  The second half was a tighter affair with the defence exerting more control keeping chances to a premium.  A final score of 2-2 repeated the feat when the two sides met in January and closes off a season which leaves all looking forward to next season with the promise of further development from the team packed with under 16 year olds.
