Match Report | Caradon 3rds pulled off a surprising win against 4th in the table Launceston on Saturday beating them 2 - 0; there last encounter saw Launceston come away 9 - 1 winners so it just goes to show how much this team have developed in the last few months. Caradon started by winning the toss and straight from the whistle were pushing forward with Charlotte Reed and Nicola Batten making great in-roads against the Launcestons defence. Launceston however were very quick on the break, their centre forward had alot of pace and skill driving towards the home teams goal. Caradons defence of Bryony Gubbins, Shelley Lockett, Jane Luiten, Emma Link and Jeanette Turpin were tested in the first half but with some great saves from Keeper Lauren Bowdler they kept the attacks at bay. Eventaully the tides turned and Caradon got the measure of the Launceston team structure and started to dominate the play. Subbing in the midfield kept fresh legs on the pitch; Leah Jones, Daisy Hunn, Pippa Hedley, Katie Jones and Kerryn Walsh intercepted the ball in Midfield with ease and worked well together to push for a goal, finally Pippa Hedley drove the ball into the D and slotted the ball home giving that much deserved goal finishing the first half 1-0. A quick regroup, alot of praise and a few tactical changes Caradon came out with a new vigor. Erryn Lockett made some lovely runs into the D but was unlucky not to score, this continued pressure was a surprise to the Launceston team and they began to make silly mistakes. Bryony Gubbins (player of the match) had a fantastic, albeit tough (bruises galore) second half, picking off any attack from their quick number 4 and with her just about taken out of the game Launceston struggled with their shape. Katie Jones sealed Caradons victory with a lovely run up the right side of the pitch and managed to put the ball behind the keeper from almost the back line! A fantastic team performance! Next weekend is their penultimate game of the season against second in the league Newquay 2s. |
