Match Report

Caradon travelled to league leaders exe and although not coming away with any points, pushed the Devon team all the way and made them work hard for their win.
Caradon were 2-0 down within 15 minutes after slick interchanges showed why Exe have been at the top of the table all season. Caradon needed to steady the ship, and fast. The defensive line up of Fleur Worden, Sharon Jeffery, Julia Eldridge and Amy Batty were resilient and stemmed the tide stopping numerous attacks from entering the circle. An injury to Eldridge meant a slight reshuffle with player of the match Beth Harris now playing in the pivot role.
Caradon enjoyed some good spells of possession and created some chances of their own. Youngster Charlie Harris was having a great game, with stints on both wings showing her versatility. Joely Bytheway playing in her more favoured role as a forward had a good chance to pull a goal back but was denied by the keeper. The incentive was now with Caradon as Exe continued to be frustrated and it was a deft pass from Lauren Kelly that found Clare Poad free in the circle, her shot was saved but the rebound was neatly swept home by tireless midfielder Carrina Batten.
With the game in the balance and with 5 minutes remaining it was Exe who scored a well worked goal to secure the three points that they deserved.
With 6th place in the league still to be fight for, Caradon now look forward to hosting Torbay at home this Saturday 10.30 start.
