Match Report

Caradon Men’s 1st XI took part in a bitterly fought contest against Exeter and Culm Vale Hornets on Saturday in a game that could have gone to either team.

ECV Hornets went into the weekend one place above Caradon in the league table, with a run of good for Caradon were keen to build on the previous weeks successes and move themselves further up the table. After a feisty start with both teams applying pressure it was Hornets who took the first blood with a good counter that caught Caradon off guard. The rest of the first half continued in the same fashion both teams attacking but failing to get another goal on the board.

The second half was as hard fought as the first with both teams testing the keepers at either end. Hornets stepped up the intensity, pressuring the Caradon defence and winning a number of short corners, Caradon held their ground not conceding any shots fired in, but after numerous attempts fell prey to a worked short corner which was slipped into the corner passed the Caradon goal keeper.

Hornets sees to sit back after scoring a second and with the bit between their teeth Caradon dug deep and worked the ball up the field, the hornets defence were unable to hold the pressure from Caradon but the goal keeper managed to keep the ball out the net with some good saves. Caradon finally managed to get on the score sheet from a short corner routine calmly finished by Martin Batty. Tempers started to fly in the Hornets camp. Caradon continued to attack relentlessly leaving Hornets to play for time, much to the frustration of the away team. The Umpire blew the final whistle securing the win for Hornets 2-1.
