Match Report | This weekend saw caradon 3rd string take on Marjons 4th team away at the University pitch. Their last encounter with this team was a 3-0 loss but the team have improved immensely since October and were ready to prove they could take on this young fit Marjon team. Caradon started well and scuppered any forward play from the home side. Caradon soon found their feet and pressured the Marjons D. Charlotte Reed, Karen Dyer and Erryn Locket linked up well on the forward line and caused the home side to make some harsh tackles. Caradon kept up this pressure; the rotation of the young midfield of Bryony Gubbins, Daisy Hunn, Leah Jones, Katie Jones, Abbi Strevens and Chloe Higman kept fresh legs on the pitch and pushed Marjons on to the back foot on numerous occasions and were unlucky not to be rewarded. The break came when captain Shelley Lockett drove the ball up the right of the pitch into the D, her cross was deflected back to her to blast home. This spurred the caradon side on. The defence of Jane Luiten, Josie Dudley, Jeanette Turpin, Zoe Harris and Emma Link picked off the attempts at their goal with goalie Lauren Bowder coming to the rescue a couple of times with well timed kicks out of the D. The second half play was dominated by the Caradon side with most of the play inside the Marjons half, they worked hard and were awarded with a handful of short corners, Dudley was unlucky not to score with her hard shots deflected away by the Marjon defence. A change to the corner routine with Lockett Junior passing a short ball to Lockett senior, no one came out to challenge Shelley Lockett so with a clear shot on goal she hit goal number 2 into the near corner of the goal. This gave caradon a cushion and they were able to relax a little and keep procession. In the dying minutes Marjons got a consolation goal to bring the scoreline to Marjons 1 - Caradon 2. A fantastic win!! |
