Match Report

In their first home game of the year, Caradon 2s faced local rivals Plym Valley. A traditionally hard and well fought game, this meeting had plenty of passion from both sides.

Caradon held off attacks from the visiting team for the first 20 minutes, taking most of the possession riding off the confidence of their draw last week. Particularly space for Natalie Ridgers in her new position on the left, gave her time to run and win sideline balls to move up the pitch. Frustratingly Plym Valley took the lead against the run of play, but with plenty of time left on the clock Caradon knew they had to step up a gear. They won their first short corner of the game, a top of the D strike from Jayne Longrigg brushed past the post as the home side continued the pressure on the Plym Valley defence.

Rolling subs meant fresh legs were always available, with the advantage of a defensive sub this week being used well between the strong back three. Tempers started to show, as they normally do during this close fixture, as some back chat and pushing resulted in a player from each team being shown the green card, both Caradon and Plym Valley were down to 10 for 2 minutes.

The score stayed at 0-1 into the second half, after a positive half time talk, the 2s came out refreshed and determined to level the score. They did just that not long into the second 35, winning another short corner. Abi Larigo pushed the ball out to the waiting Sarah ‘Browner’ Strevens who controlled the ball top D and slipped to Helen Manley on her left, taking the ball a few steps closer her strike went through the keepers legs, hitting the back board to make it 1-1.
Unfortunately the celebrations weren’t to last long as Plym Valley once again took the lead, with a quick counter attack. Caradon continued to have chances, once again showing their grit and determination but it was to be just one of those games where nothing else wanted to go in. The visiting side added to their tally near the end of the match, as the game finished 1-3 at the final whistle.

Caradon continue their Trelawney One journey, away tomorrow versus Camborne School of Mines. A team they drew with in the first half of the season, they will be keen to come home with a point or three to help with their first season in the new league.
