Caradon travelled to a cold Oakhampton and were worthy winners in an entertaining game.
Caradon took the lead within 4 minutes. An attacking play left in form, Charlie Harris ,with a strike on goal but her shot somehow rebounded off the post onto a defenders foot. The ensuing penalty corner was smashed home by Captain Clare Poad .
Okehampton came right back at Caradon and grabbed an equaliser soon after but the lead was regained when Bizzie Dinnis finished from close range after build up play by Poad. Caradon looked very confident and produced some of the best hockey of the season. Player of the match, Amy Batty, was owning the centre of the park with a dominant display and it was her brilliant direct pass that found Poad unmarked in the circle to fire home. It was then defender sharon jeffery to turn provider, when her pass found Dinnis who weaved her magic and slotted home to make the score 1-4 at half time.
Okehampton looked lively as play resumed and soon bundled the ball over the line to keep the game interesting. A penalty stroke was awarded to each team, with both takers firing the ball wide of the upright. The game kept up a healthy competiveness and the consistent umpiring saw cards been shown to members of both teams fairly and unchallenged.
Okehampton were awarded numerous penalty corners but the Caradons defence stood firm and keeper, Helen Delbridge looked in complete control.
Caradon could have scored a hat full but it was Poad who grabbed her hatrick from a penalty corner. Glayne Prices’ sharp injection was fired into the bottom corner and caradon could now really enjoy themselves as the two minuets remaining was signalled.
Caradon entertain the high flying Tavistock on Saturday looking to avenge their defeat earlier in the season.
