Match Report | Caradon 2 were away this week to mid table Marjons 3, with the cold weather against them pushback was delayed for an hour due a frozen pitch earlier in the morning. Keen to crack on, both teams came out with aggression and speed and this was to last the entire game. The visiting side started with much positivity both in the passing and vocal support on the pitch, a slight change in the formation clicked instantly as EJ made runs up the right wing. It felt like Caradon had a confidence about them despite last week’s loss, they were out to get something from the match and pushing play forced a few saves from the Marjons keeper within the first 20 minutes. The goal finally came before half time, not a pretty goal it has to be said, with defenders and attackers clogging the D jumping on every scrappy ball. But somehow Jayne Longrigg found the opportunity and converted. As temperatures from the home side started rising, the half time whistle came at a good moment in the game allowing both sides to calm the tension. Caradon’s defence were tested quickly at the start of the second half, Claire Brown, Marcia Burgess and Georgia Hall had to work hard to protect keeper Bekki Eddy who when the time came, made crucial saves. However, Marjons struck back with a goal similar to Caradon’s, messy and scrambled, the ball was scuffed over the line to equal the scoreline. Caradon had chances to grab the win with Jayne hitting the post and Sarah ‘Browner’ Strevens facing a one on one with the keeper but slicing the ball over the bar. A few short corners also came the yellow’s way but Marjons were quick to steal the ball and clear it out of danger. Temperatures rose again as both teams were aware of the time running out and the opportunities both were getting on goal, despite Jayne’s goal heroics she found herself sidelined near the end of the match with a green card for raising her stick. But as the final whistle blew at 1-1, Caradon were happy to grab a point from a strong team who they lost 4-2 to at the start of the season. They face local rivals Plym Valley tomorrow with their first home game of the year at Lux from 12 noon. |
